Celebrate Grandparents Day September 7th!
This Grandparents Day, we celebrate and thank grandparents everywhere — near and far, across the world — for the love, wisdom, and support they give their families every day.

Being a grandparent is a special gift — a second chapter in parenting, filled with joy, connection, and the unique bond shared with grandchildren.

At Grandparent Merit Badges (GMB), our vision is to Disconnect from the Digital™ and Reconnect with Those Who Matter Most!
Put simply: find the meaningful and simple things in life and enjoy them with your grandchildren and loved ones.

Life’s daily tasks are far more enjoyable with your grandchildren. Moreover, these activities are learning opportunities for grandchildren.
And who better to share your life wisdom than them?
This Grandparent’s Day - Discover Our Newest Book!
Lucas and Emily’s newest adventure highlights how even small acts of giving can ripple outward — spreading empathy, nurturing community, and showing that everyone has the power to make a difference.
We are so excited to share this story with you!

For the creation of the book, the author and his grandson brought in local non-profit organizations such as The Greater Cleveland Food Bank and The Sandwich People Ministries. Their stories became a part of our story! Lucas and Emily’s Food Bank Adventure helps children understand how easy and rewarding helping out your local food bank is.
Award Winning Author Dave Grunenwald says,
“I have spent time at the Cleveland Food Bank, while donating some of the Lucas and Emily Adventure books and Grandparent Merit Badges.
The number of people—young and old—who need food right now is staggering. I’m truly in awe of the dedicated volunteers who pour thousands of hours into making food banks run. It’s a massive, coordinated effort.”
The experience had a profound impact on Dave and his grandson. Together, they volunteered, gave back, and then began the journey of sharing their story with the world through The Lucas and Emily Adventure.
Volunteering - A Rewarding Experience to be Shared!
Volunteering together can be an exciting and rewarding learning adventure to share with your loved one. And there is always a grateful receiving organization for your volunteer time.
There are many ways to help like dropping off food, stocking shelves, or helping to make sandwiches. You can find what works best with your own schedule.
At GMB, we love volunteering activities so much we published a merit badge book featuring all Volunteering activities to do with your grandchildren!

The very first activity page in the book is Volunteer at a Local Food Bank! This is how much we love this activity!
Although the Volunteer Book is no longer in distribution, the topic remains close to our hearts—and is now at the center of our newest story.
So, we ask you, our dear audience and readership, how will YOU spend this beloved National Day of Celebration for grandparents?
Is there a local food bank near you that you might be able to visit? These hard-working local non-profits work year around, and especially as we get closer to holidays.
With Thanksgiving and the holidays coming, food banks will work around the clock on their special holiday programs. Just like grocery stores, they face one of their most demanding seasons.
Our suggestion is to pick up the latest copy of Lucas and Emily’s Food Bank Adventure and read it with your grandchild.

Talk to them about volunteering and choose a volunteer activity to do together. Perhaps it would be to deliver a bag of groceries to your local food bank or take a tour of the food bank to learn about what they do.
Food banks need help in their food pantry with jobs such as stocking shelves and packing groceries. These helpful tasks allow the opportunity for important discussion about doing small kind deeds for others.
To Grandparents near and far, we wish you a wonderful Grandparents Day! We thank you for your love, support, and care that you give to your loved ones!
Happy Grandparents Day!
