This great holiday is for relaxing, seeing family, eating wonderful food and hopefully seeing some fireworks!
Your family may also be going to a parade in your town! Or participating in one!

Here are a few wonderful activities found in the book that you can do on the 4th of July AND earn a merit badge sticker in your book! Double Whammy!
Bake Cookies Together - Earn a Badge! The only challenge here is deciding which delicious recipe to go with. A few that we like are from Taste of Home website:
- Oatmeal S’More Cookies - Oh Yum! What could be better or easier?! Jump to the recipe!
- Summertime Fun Cookies - made with simple sugar cookies, these will make the grandchildren jump for joy with decorating options! Check out this wonderful recipe idea idea!
- Beach Ball Cookies - Maybe the cutest cookie you will make this year, it’s like doing play-doh with the children and making a fun food! Check out the recipe here!
- Campfire Cookies - And I can’t help sharing this one! What could be more fun than creating fun edible campfires!! Check out this recipe here.
Of Course, most children love the very reliable and delicious chocolate chip cookie!
Take or Draw a Picture of Each Other - This merit badge is a wonderful bonding sticker with your grandchild. On the 4th of July there will be many, many opportunities to take or draw a picture of each other.
One idea is you could take several fun pictures of your activities on the 4th, and then later, or the next day choose one to draw together. Did you go to a parade or watch fireworks together? Did you go to a BBQ? Drawing a picture with your grandchild is truly special and intentional quality time. Have fun with it!
Ride a Bike - Summertime is a great time to get the bikes out. Whether biking in your neighborhood or taking the bikes to a local park, this is a sticker to be earned in the book! You may be on holiday and the bikes are coming with you!
Have a Meal Together - Many extended family members come together over the 4th of July for meals and activities. We actually have a merit sticker just for having a meal together! Earn your merit sticker on this page - easy-peasy! Enjoy the day and get a badge. Whatever your meal time together will be, we hope it is a wonderful afternoon!
Write Each Other a Letter - A lot of loved ones live in different parts of the country. We have 2 merit badges for communications with loved ones when you are apart. There is the Write a Letter to Each Other badge, and the Facetime or Phone Call badge. Even if you are not together this holiday, you can still earn a badge by communicating!
When we say Double Whammy, we mean it! The 4th is a beautiful day for family and celebrations, PLUS, there are loads of ways to earn your merit badge!
