On National Cooking Day September 25th, we have a wonderful way to share this special celebration with you and your family!

We have an activity book for cooking enthusiasts, and we want to share it with you!

The Grandparent Merit Badges® Book for Cooking Enthusiasts!

Try a new recipe or an old family, traditional one and enjoy the chance to slow down and cook at home.

There is nothing as wonderful as a home cooked meal, shared with loved ones.

At Grandparent Merit Badges®, our Grandparent Merit Badges ® for Cooking Enthusiasts activity book has been thoughtfully designed for the Cooking Enthusiast in You! This fun-filled sticker and activity book provides hours of cooking opportunities for grandparents and their grandchildren.

Here is just a sample of some of the activities you will find inside the Grandparent Merit Badges® for Cooking Enthusiasts book:

  • Develop your Own Recipe.  Put in your own recipe, earn a sticker and fill in the details.  You may have several fun and delicious recipes that are in the family.  Take the opportunity to share one now with your grandchildren and let the traditions continue on.
  • Bake bread or bake a pie.  Baking bread requires patience and love.  Homemade bread is one way of telling family members that something very special was created in your home.  Autumn is a wonderful time to pick your own fruits at the local farms and orchards for pie baking.  Apple picking and pumpkin picking are wonderful fall activities and make outstanding breads, pies and other delicious dishes.
  • Cook a Traditional Family Recipe.  This page and sticker are such a beautiful one to work on together and to earn at this time of the year.  With the holidays around the corner, decide on a recipe that warms the heart of your family and go for it!  Or three!

This fun-filled sticker and activity book provides hours of cooking opportunities for grandparents and their grandchildren.

Did You Know?

In Ohio, about 100,000 grandparents are raising their grandchildren as primary caregivers.*

Many grandparents are spending time with grandchildren on a regular basis, so let’s find some wonderful things to cook together!

The holidays are quickly approaching.

Have you seen the Halloween and Christmas decorations at the hardware stores??  Too soon??

Let’s check out a few wonderful holiday recipes to get your mouth watering and ready to cook!

Apple Fritters!
Okay, YUM!  Who can say no to an amazing apple fritter?

There are dozens of wonderful recipes for these delicious treats, but we are going to check out Chef John’s recipe on All Recipes.

Soups!
What is more heartwarming than a homemade soup with fresh bread to dip it in?

What are some of your favorites?

For fall, a freshly made pumpkin soup is outstanding.  I do love a certain local bakery that has amazing soups in sourdough bread bowls… Mmmmm, just the thought of them… but yes, back to what we were doing, we’re getting out our own pots and bowls ready for homemade cooking.

Pumpkin Soup!

Or a good broccoli cheddar soup?  Oh yeah!

This wonderful soup recipe list by Insanely Good Recipes is a place to find inspiration.

Don’t forget - cookbooks are always a great go-to!  Better still, the old, tattered pages of family recipes that are in a book that everyone knows about.  Pull those out of the cupboard!

But for this exercise, online inspiration is good to get us going with a few ideas.

Crock Pot City!
Does anything say, “Cooler weather ahead!” like the smell arising from a crock pot?  We all have our favorite go-to’s for the good ‘ole crock pot.  But which recipes really knock it out of the park?

I have a friend who does an amazing, shredded buffalo chicken crock pot recipe.

Let’s check out this recipe from Jenny, whose blog is called The Diary of a Real Housewife.  This mouthwatering dish is great for sandwiches and snacks!

Gather your cooking enthusiasts, young and old, into the kitchen and have fun!

Tip: Find a small person apron for your little cooking enthusiast, always a bonus!  This way the feelings are real, they are truly helping to get the job done and provide something meaningful and delicious for the whole family.  Get them into “ready-to-work” mode!

We hope you will celebrate this wonderful holiday and make a few memories with your family along the way!

Enjoy!
